What Our Community Says

Beyond the headlines, every beneficiary has a story.

At WIFOMA, the voices of our members tell the real story of our work. From farmers gaining financial independence to communities embracing environmental conservation, each testimony reflects the positive change we’re driving together.

My name is Chrisphine Osunga, I am the chairman of Wire Forest Associations, I was born and raised up in a community adjacent to Wire Forest and witnessed massive forest destruction; at a time when women were given pangas and axes by their spouses and encouraged to go to the forest to eke out livelihood by cutting down trees and burning charcoal. These senseless destructions to our pristine mother planet motivated me to join an association to participate in matters of environmental conservation and restoration of diversity. I therefore welcome you to join us in this noble journey because I believe that together we can build greater resilience and more robust solutions to regular shocks and crises, as well as supporting the longer-term development of vulnerable communities.

MILLICENT ATIENO Bee farmer

My name is Millicent Aluoch Ochoieng of Agoro Village, Nyalenda sub-location, North kamagak, Homa Bay County –Kenya. I am 44years old married, a mother of 4 and Bee farmer. As a member of WIFOMA, I had the opportunity to interact with the user groups namely: Bee keeping, Bamboo, Tree Nursery and scouts. However, bee keeping caught my interest when a donor offered us buy one get one free. I bought one and went home with 2 bee hives. Currently I have 16 bee hives and looking forward to increasing the number to 100 and install a family honey processing unit. Bee farming has given me financial dependence and consequently bought livestock and poultry. Further, I am now able to pay school fee for my children and some basic upkeep. The medicinal benefits of honey have helped my close friends and relatives; I have influenced new farmers into the practice. I no-longer depend entirely on my spouse financial support and advice fellow women to venture in Bee keeping and protect the forest.
