Who we are
Wire Forest rises between Kachien, North Kamagak and West Kamagak in Kasipul. Luo elders prayed for rain on its hilltops, and its springs fed rivers flowing to the lake. Population pressure stripped much of its indigenous cover.
Since 2013, WIFOMA has worked with Kenya Forest Service and local farmers to restore the forest, so that conservation and income grow together.
Each programme gives people near the forest a reason and a way to protect it.
“I joined a beekeeping group and started with two hives from a donor. Today I have 16, and I plan to reach 100 with a family honey processing unit. Beekeeping has given me financial independence. I now rear livestock, pay for my children’s education, and encourage other women to take up bee farming and forest conservation.”
